It is often forgotten, but the Sacré-Coeur was commissioned as atonement for the 58.000 dead of the 1870-1 Franco-Prussian war. Even today, priests work in relays to keep the prayers going 24 hours a day.
This extraordinary neo-Romanesque-Byzantine edifice has a strong tourist pull, mainly for its hilltop site overlooking Paris.
Opening times :
The Basilica is open every day from 6am to 10:30pm (for the visits, the last entries are around 10:15pm)
You can climb up the dome to have a fanstastic view of Paris: 9.00am to 7pm (6pm in winter). It is also possible to visit the crypt (the opening times can vary)
The Basilica shop is open every day except Monday from 9.15am to 5.45pm
